Diversion Prevention in Pharmacies and Healthcare Institutions
This slide program is designed to help healthcare professionals understand motivations for and methods of pharmaceutical drug diversion. Focused on pharmacy and institutional security, it helps identify fraudulent prescription tactics, record-keeping forgery, and behaviors suggestive of employee pilfering. It also explores strategies for solutions.
Pharmacists’ Role in Providing Medication Guides for Products with REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies)
Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) are one component of an FDA mandate meant to ensure that the benefits of a drug outweigh its risks. A key element of most REMS programs is patient/caregiver education, including distribution of a Medication Guide and/or patient insert. Thus, pharmacists and pharmacy staff are involved in the implementation of most REMS. This resource provides the healthcare professional with information related to this role of the pharmacist in communicating with the patient receiving a medication that utilizes REMS.
